10 Amazing Animal Parents

07:45
Parenting done right! From the amazing motherly instincts of the African Elephant to the incredible giant pacific octopus moms, here are 10 amazing animal parents. Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos. 6 - Strawberry poison-dart frog - Another dynamic parenting duo are the strawberry poison-dart frogs. Measuring only the size of a fingernail, these diminutive frogs more than make up for their size. It begins when the female lays her eggs on the rain forest floor, while the males keep guard to protect the eggs from predators. In addition to that, the Dad also has another very important job – he must urinate on the eggs every day to keep them moist. Yuck! Once the eggs hatch and the tadpoles are born, the mother frog must carry each tadpole to their own pool of water, because if they all stay together they will cannibalize each other. Once the babies are separated, the mom than visits each one once a day to lay an unfertilized egg for them to eat. She does this for almost 2 months until the frogs are old enough to find their own food. Also during this time the male frog continually keeps watch to make sure no predators gain access to the children. 5 - Adelie penguin - The Adelie penguins should be nominated for parents of the year. Both mom and dad go to extraordinary lengths to raise their young in the freezing Antarctic. In begins with the males, who once a year make a 3,100 journey to the nesting area, in order to prepare the nest for his companion. He must pile stones high up off the freezing ground, to make sure the eggs don’t freeze. When his mate finally arrives, they both take turns keeping the eggs warm, because if an egg is left uncovered for more than 5 minutes, it will never hatch. Once the eggs do hatch, the parents take turns going fishing to feed their ravenous young. One parent will stay to protect the children while the other fishes and vice-versa. 4 - Caribbean flamingo - The Caribbean flamingos, also known as the American flamingos, have a unique way to raise their young. Unlike many mammals which depend solely on the mother for food, both Caribbean flamingo parents are able to feed their young. They do this by producing a nutrient rich red milk in a pouch near their throat. This milk is full of fat and protein, which allows their young to feed before their bills are ready for real food. Both parents are able to make this milk because they both produce a hormone called prolactin. And this unusual milk is what gives the babies their pink coloring. And while the babies coloring gets brighter because of this, it has the opposite effect on the parents. They began to lose their color, turning pale and washed out as they care for their young. 3 - Giant Pacific octopus - For the Giant Pacific Octopus, the largest octopus species in the world, caring for their babies fulfills their mission in life. And the Giant Pacific Octopus doesn’t do anything small – when they lay their eggs, they do it 100,000 at a time. Once the eggs are laid, the mother octopus’s sole focus is to make sure the eggs are clean and supplied with oxygen. The mother octopus stands constant guard looking after her eggs for the six months it takes them to hatch. She does so to the detriment of herself, as she doesn’t eat during this time and dies once the eggs hatch and she knows they are safe. 2 - Weddell Seal - Its hard being a single mom – even harder when you have to raise your kids in one of the most inhospitable places on Earth - just ask the Weddell seals. The Weddell seals live in the Antarctic. A Weddell seal’s pregnancy lasts 11 months, and then she has two weeks to feed the baby before nudging them into the water. In order to get the baby ready for the ice cold waters, the mom’s milk contains up to 60% fat – enough to nourish the baby and help them develop the thick blubber they will need to swim in the freezing waters. And learning to swim is the easy part. She also has to teach her baby how to navigate both above and below the ice, how to locate holes in the ice to come up for air, and how to make holes in the ice with their teeth so that they don’t get trapped underneath. 1 - African elephant - For African elephants, it really does take a village to raise a child, or in this case a herd. African elephants roam in herds of females, led by a matriarch, the oldest of the females. These elephants only have babies every three to four years, primarily because their pregnancies last 2 years. Once the babies are born the herd protects them from predators by circling around them and keeping them in the middle whenever danger is near. Sometimes elephant calves are stolen my rivals and at those times the full might of the herd is shown when they show up to claim their own.

10 Living Fossils

08:15
From the rare deep sea goblin shark, to the tiny hula painted frog, here are 10 Living Fossils ! Fig Wasps -- Here’s an insect that suffered from a case of mistaken identity. In the 1920s, a fig wasp fossil dated 34 million years old was found, but incorrectly catalogued as an ant. When the fossil was re-analyzed in 2010 The Nautilus -- No, we’re not talking about Captain Nemo’s ship, or exercise equipment. This Nautilus is a marine mollusk that has basically stayed the same for the past half-billion years, give or take. These creatures first appeared during the late Cambrian period and later became a group of sea predators. They’re the last remaining cephalopods with a bony body structure that externalizes as a shell… unlike octopus and squid, their distant relatives. The nautilus is actually closer to cephalopods that first appeared 500 million years ago than the more modern creatures that showed up some 100 million years later The Hoatzin (hwat-seen) -- These birds engender some debate because their evolutionary tree seems to be missing a few branches … so to speak. About the size of a pheasant, they usually have a total length of 26 inches and are usually found in swamps and mangroves of South America’s Amazon and Orinoco Delta. Debate about the animal stems in part from certain characteristics that aren’t found in other birds … the chicks of the Hoatzin have claws at the ends of their wings, which helps them to climb up and cling to trees. Because the creature is so distinct, it’s actually been given its own family. Genetic research conducted in 2015 revealed the Hoatzin to be the sole surviving member of birds that flew off in their own direction some 64 million years ago. So we’ll admit it up front … this picture is photoshopped. The lady in the green pants has been seen in the same pose in that same exhibit with different animals digitally inserted in the display window. That said, it seems to be an alligator snapping turtle the lady is looking at. Maybe she’s fascinated by being face to face with a living fossil. With their beaklike jaws, spiked shells and thick scaled tails, they still look like prehistoric creatures … and are often referred to as ‘the dinosaurs of the turtle world.’ This reptile is one of the heaviest freshwater turtles on the planet, weighing around 176 lbs on average with a carapace, or shell length of 31 inches. The biggest-ever alligator snapping turtle was supposedly found in Kansas and weighed 403 lbs, but the claim was never verified. They’re one of North America’s largest freshwater turtles, with life spans up to 100 years! Given these animals have only one natural predator, the century-mark might be attainable. But that one predator is us. Humans capture these animals for their meat and shells … that has led to alligator snapping turtles being listed as a threatened species. Goblin Shark -- No wonder they put a good, old-fashioned scare into people … Goblin Sharks are ancient deep sea creatures, the last remaining member of of a family around 125 million years feetold. It’s easily identified by its pink skin, long, flat snout, and its powerful jaws, which can essentially pop out of its mouth and tear into their prey with its razor sharp teeth. The whole process looks like something from one of those “Alien” movies. They stay shrouded in mystery, since they prefer ice cold waters at depths up to 4300 feet. Think you’d like to run into one? Crocodilia (krok-a-dee-lee-ah) -- This is an order of mostly large, semiaquatic predatory reptiles that date back almost 84 million years ago to the late Cretaceous Period. As you might expect, this order includes crocodiles, alligators and various caiman (kay-man) families. The animals in this order are usually solidly built with elongated flattened snouts with ears, eyes and nostrils found at the tops of their heads. Other common characteristics include thick skin covered in scales, peg-like teeth and a powerful bite, and they’re largely carnivorous. Crocodilians can range in size from the smallest species, Cuvier’s Dwarf Caiman which grows under 5 feet long … to the largest species, the fearsome Saltwater Crocodile … which can measure up to 23 feet and weigh up to 2600 lbs. Of all living reptiles, this animal is the biggest. This apex predator is the most widely distributed of any modern croc, found from eastern India to southeast Asia to northern Australia. They’re considered the most dangerous living crocodilians to humans … and with the strongest bite force ever recorded, it’s no wonder why! BIGGEST Animals Ever Caught!

09:29
Our oceans are filled with monstrously huge animals, and sometimes there’s a very lucky fisherman or woman who reels one in! We’re not staying in the ocean – there have also been some incredibly disturbingly large animals caught on land as well! 10 - Frog in the throat I sincerely hope not! This is the Goliath Frog, and I don’t know who the guy is that caught it, but he’s extremely brave to have done so! They are freakishly large, some up to 13- inches in length and can weigh as much as 7.1-pounds. They’re usually found near Gabon in West Africa, and are often eaten by locals. Their numbers are sadly dwindling due to being eaten, traded and loss of natural habitat. 9 - Holy mackerel! Great white sharks have a number of interesting names, like beasts of the ocean, remnants from the past or apex predators – regardless of what you call them, they’re still sea dwellers you wouldn’t like to meet face to face. This vintage photograph shows a great white that was caught in Cuba that was 21-feet and weighed 7,000-pounds! This story was a bit of a legend, and many didn’t believe this image was real! Known as "El Monstruo de Cojimar, a Discovery Channel documentary crew has done some extensive research into the tales, images and whatever else, and they have confirmed the tale to be 100% true! 8 - Good things come to those that bait When you think of seahorses, you generally think of tiny cute little sea creatures. Although these unusual creatures don’t look like fish, they really are. They are usually 0.6 inches long, so it came as a huge surprise when a British fisherman caught one that was 14 inches! 7 - Rise to the bait It was hard work for the crew of New Zealand vessel, San Aspiring, as they brought on board this colossal squid. Found in the Ross Sea, this catch was incredible for the team who were now able to study this majestic creature up close. They live between 3,000 and 6,000 feet deep in the Antarctic and contrary to what we previously thought, these squids are not monsters, but much more sedentary. We have these images in our heads, of these creatures wrapping their tentacles around boats and bringing them down, but those are of course all myths and stories. It has been learnt that they wait patiently for fish to pass them, which they then capture and eat. 6 - Surf and Turf Ocean Sunfish, or Mola Mola, are the heaviest bone fish in the world. They mainly eat jellyfish and a female sunfish can lay up to 300 million eggs at a time! How many of those actually survive, I have no idea. This bad boy was caught by W. N. McMillan in 1910 and weighed an astronomical 3,500 pounds. Generally, a heavy sunfish can weigh up to 2,200 pounds. 5 - Plenty of fish in the sea That may be so, but there are certainly not that many oarfish in the ocean! They’re mostly harmless, although you wouldn’t guess that just by looking at it. This 300-pound specimen was caught by Navy Seals off the coast of San Diego and was 23-feet long. 4 - Crocodile Tears This is Cassius Clay, the biggest croc in captivity. He weighs close to a ton, and was captured in 1984 in the Northern Territory. He is just under 18-feet and has lived at Marineland Melanesia crocodile park on Green Island for 24-years. He even had a double page dedicated to him in the 2012 Guinness Book of Records. 3 - Big Brother is watching you Ok, there’s a good chance that he wasn’t caught in the regular way – but does winning him count? This pet goldfish belongs to Ada Shaw, a widow from Kent. It’s probably one of the biggest goldfish you’ll ever see. Named Goldie, this fish is 15.7 inches long and weighs more than 2-pounds, and is still growing! The current record for the biggest goldfish is 18.7 inches, and experts believe Goldie will surpass him. Goldie’s owner believes it’s the love and attentions as well as his excellent food that has made him grow this big. 2 - Click Bait Did you see what we did there? I’d love to share more amazing facts about what looks to be a remarkable catch, but I think we’ve all been caught out with this image and that its been staged to look like a monster has been caught in this shallow bit of water! 1 - News from the deep This is a mantis shrimp, and they usually grow to around 3 inches. Steve Bargeron managed to catch one that was 18 inches long! He caught it in Florida while fishing off a dock. There are around 400 species of mantis shrimp, but which exact species this one fell under, was unknown.

How Different Animals See The World

13:21
Humans see the world differently to most animals. Let's find out exactly how the animals of earth view the world! Subscribe for more! ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedSubscribe ◄ Stay updated ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedFacebook https://instagram.com/BeAmazedVideos ◄ For copyright queries or general inquiries please get in touch: [email protected] How dogs see the world - We humans have three different kinds of color detecting cells in our eyes, called cones, whereas dogs only have two. Geckos - Human cone cells need pretty bright light in order to function well, which is why we can’t see colors that well when it’s dark. Giant Clams - Giant Clams, it turns out, not only have eyes, but have a few hundred eyes about the size of pinholes all along the edge of their bodies. Jumping Spiders - Mantis shrimp - You’ve probably heard of the Mantis shrimp because of their famous aquarium glass shattering punching capability. Bees - If you’ve seen the Bee Movie, you already know that bees are important. Cats - Flies - Flies can see limited colors, but they have a very broad field of vision, and see in a sort of mosaic effect. Snakes - Some animals, like snakes, don’t see color at all. Cows - Cows seem like pretty boring animals, so you’d expect them to pretty much see the way we do. Birds - Vision is particularly important for birds, since you don’t want to hit something while you’re fifty feet in the air. Horses How Frogs see the world. Frogs are near-sighted, therefore they can't see at distances that well. Chameleons - Like birds, chameleons can see all the colors we do, plus ultraviolet light, which we can't see. Starfish - For a long time, scientists wondered if starfish could even see at all. It was known that they have one eye on the end of each arm, but it wasn’t clear if they could actually see images out of them or not. Recently, however, scientists have discovered that starfish can indeed see very basic images – about two hundred pixels. I guess some vision is better than no vision. What would a starfish need super jacked up eyes for anyway? Cuttlefish - The adorably named cuttlefish has blurrier vision than we do, and are completely colorblind. Butterflies - Butterflies see with red, green, blue, UV, and the wideband light from red to purple. Garden Snails - A snail’s eyes are located at the the tip of their two smallest tentacles. Rabbits - Turtles - While it is commonly believed that turtles are colorblind, in reality, they are better at seeing color than we are.

10 Shocking Mutant Animal Discoveries

12:09
Shocking mutant animal discoveries! These unusual creatures show real animal mutations; born with additional limbs or two faces. Support our Patreon today: https://www.patreon.com/theywillkillyou Subscribe for new videos: http://goo.gl/SaufF4 Follow us on Instagram: @theywillkillyou Voiceover by Carl Mason: [email protected] 10 Winged Cats During a heat wave in China’s Sichuan Province, several cat owners noticed that their pets started developing bumps on their backs. They didn’t think much of it at first, but then the bumps began turning into wing-like growths. 9 Kenny Kenny was a white tiger rescued along with his brother Willie, in 2006, by the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Reserve in Arkansas. Willie had a normal orange coat but was cross-eyed. Kenny, however, was mentally disabled and couldn’t close his mouth properly because of a deformity in his face. Their parents were siblings made to mate by their breeder in an attempt to get a white tiger. 8 Two-headed Snake As their name implies, black rat snakes have bodies that are completely black, with the exception of their chins, which are white. One of the first strange things about We the black rat snake was that it was an albino, meaning that its body was completely white. The second and arguably much stranger aspect, was that We had two heads and both male and female reproductive organs. Back in 1999, We was bought by the World Aquarium in St. Louis for $15,000. In the years that followed close to one million people visited it. In the wild, two headed snakes don’t live for very long. 7 Faith Because of a brain mutation, Faith’s front legs never fully developed when she was born. She was a homeless dog that had been rejected by her mother as a pup. When 17-year-old Reuben Stringfellow found her abandoned he decided to give Faith to his mother. Unfortunately, the dog’s front legs gradually became weaker and ultimately had to be amputated. Yet, what could have been a very sad story, eventually turned into an inspirational one. 6 Three-headed Frog Even though reports of mutant frogs have been circulating for more than 200 years, finding one with three heads and six legs was considered highly unlikely. That was until students from the Green Umbrella Nursery in the UK discovered such a specimen in 2004. When they first laid eyes on the animal, they thought it was actually three separate frogs standing very close to each other. Upon closer examination they noticed that it was actually one frog. Its eyes and legs appeared to function normally but it wasn’t clear if it could ingest food through all its three mouths. 5 Octogoat Croatian farmer Zoran Paparic had to call a neighbor to his home to make sure he wasn’t going crazy. It all happened after Paparic saw the kid that his goat Sarka had given birth to. Not only did the newborn have both female and male reproductive organs but it also had eight legs. 4 Monkey-Faced Piglet From a litter of 15 piglets born on a farm in Guizhou Province, China, one stood out with some very unusual features. Its body featured trotters and overall resembled that of a normal piglet. The animal’s face, however, was described as resembling that of a monkey. Its eyes were of different sizes and protruded from its head. It had two holes for a nose and an overbite that left its long tongue protruding from its mouth. 3 Belgian Blue You might have seen pictures on the Internet of incredibly muscular cows that would stir the envy of most professional bodybuilders. This is a breed of beef cattle known as the Belgian Blue. They have a natural mutation in the myostatin gene, which is responsible for inhibiting muscle growth. The mutation stops the myostatin gene from working properly which causes lean muscle to grow faster. The result is an ultra-muscular, hyper sculpted physique. 2 Frank and Louie On September 8, 2011, Frank and Louie turned 12 years and entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest Janus cats in the world. Janus cats suffer from a very rare mutation called craniofacial duplication. This mutation causes an animal to have two faces on a single skull. Although extremely rare, it can even occur in humans.ous owner had brought them to the clinic to have them put down. 1 Giant Feral Hog According to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, licensed hunters are encouraged to help reduce the feral hog population. These animals reproduce quickly and don’t really have any natural predators. It’s been estimated that, each year in the US, feral hogs cause around $800 million worth of agricultural damage. People often have to protect their property from these beasts. However, the beast that stumbled into Wade Seago’s front yard was in a league of its own.

Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as crazy as you might think. In this video, he tells you four cool facts about pac-man frogs. There's a large number of frogs throughout the planet that are just break the mold as far as how they live, and pacman and pixie frogs certainly are my favorites. Pacman frogs come from South America. They're called Pacman frogs for a really good reason. They look like Pac-man. They're nothing but mouths. They've got a giant mouth and a giant stomach. They're what we call sit and wait predators. Frogs usually are in the trees, they're hopping around grabbing food, and stuffing it into their mouths. Frogs In the pond near your house have big, long legs and chase their food. All frogs are predators, but there's none like these terrestrial frogs that sit and just wait for something to come along. Of course, he's not too happy on this carpet here. Their natural environment is to sit in very shallow water, preferably moss or something humid like that. They sit there all day with nothing but their eyes sticking out. The last thing the prey sees is two bulging eyes, not really sure what it is, and the Pacman opens his incredibly large mouth and makes a meal out of anything, anything, that sits in front of him. Pacman frogs and their counterparts are wonderful in pet enclosures, but in nature they are consummate predators. Pacman frogs have made the cut in that they are now being bred in captivity by professional breeders. And when that happens, they lose their natural coloration. Their natural coloration would be something that's very cryptic and make it easy for them to hide, closer to my friend over here. But through captive breeding they force out recessive traits that change the colors. We are seeing them, now we see strawberry Pacmans, apricot Pacmans, albino Pacmans, all different color phases. Same habits, same habitat, same way to keep them, but they are different and therefore much sought-after in the pet trade. This is an animal that takes a very small enclosure. A 10-gallon fish tank is enough for an adult one. They'll get about the size of the palm of my hand. They are a lot of fun to watch and eat, as they just go bop, bop, bop , and they gobble up their food much like our friend from the video game, Pac-man South American Pacman Frog.

Removing a plastic straw from a sea turtle's nostril - Short Version

02:24
While on a research project in Costa Rica, Nathan J. Robinson removed a 10 cm (4 in) plastic straw that was entirely embedded into the nostril of an olive ridley sea turtle. Lamentably, this is a consequence of the world of single-use, non-biodegradable plastic that we currently live in. There is a solution and it lies in our own decisions. Please say no to all single-use plastic. Every plastic straw, plastic bag, or plastic bottle that ends up in the oceans could mean the difference between life or death for any number of marine animals. Video taken by: Christine Figgener.

Most frogs can fit in the palm of your hand, or even on the tip of your finger. But the Goliath frog (Conraua goliath), the world’s largest frog, may grow up to 3 feet long when it is stretched out and can weigh as much as a newborn baby, about 7 lbs (3.2 kg). 10 Abnormally Large Dogs In The World

09:33
10 Abnormally Large Dogs In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] 10 Largest Dogs Ever You Won’t Believe Exist Some breeds of dogs have been around since ancient times. Most dogs are bred for a lot of different things, from protecting livestock, and protecting their owners, to being faithful and loyal companions. But in order for a dog to be protective, it’s should be bred with the size it needs to be effective. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the largest dogs ever. 1. Hulk, the Pit Bull – The name ‘Hulk’ fits this pit bull dog perfectly because he is a giant 175lbs, and stands on his hind legs almost 5 feet tall. And while he might seem big and scary, his owners say that he is very gentle and is even trusted around their young son. 2. Freddy, the Great Dane - It's probably no surprise to many that the Great Dane is one of the largest breeds of dog in the world, but Freddy takes the breed to a whole new level of big. He stands 7ft 6 inches on his hind legs, 2 feet taller than his owner, and weighs 200lbs! 3. Zorba, the English Mastiff – This English Mastiff was a legend when it comes to some of the world’s biggest dogs. You may know that when it comes to the combination of weight and height, nothing can beat this breed of canine. Many Mastiffs average up to 190 pounds, but it's not unusual for these giants to weigh around 225 pounds at full maturity. 4. CH Samson, the Neapolitan Mastiff – This breed of Mastiff, called ‘Mastino Napolitano’ is actually an ancient dog breed, and that might explain the size of this rare dog. CH Samson was one of the largest and heaviest Mastiffs and weighed a whopping 225 pounds at just two and a half years old. 5. Zeus the Great Dane - Zeus, who lived in Otsego, Michigan, was named the world's tallest dog by the Guinness World Records in 2012. He measured an incredible 44 inches from his feet to the middle of his shoulder blades. 6. Newfoundland - Unlike many larger breeds, the Newfoundland wasn't bred to be a guard dog. Instead, it was bred to help fishermen. These big, muscular dogs are able to haul nets and lines from boats, pull carts and, most importantly, fetch anything that falls overboard into the water, including people. 7. The Irish Wolfhound - Like the Scottish deerhound, the Irish wolfhound, as its name implies, was bred to chase down wolves. Developed from war hounds into a dog that was used for hunting and guarding, the Irish wolfhound is ancient breed of canine, and may have been brought to Ireland as far back as 7000 B.C. 8. Leonberger – This large breed of dog began as a mix between a Newfoundland and a Saint Bernard. In the mid-1840s, Heinrich Essig of Leonberg, Germany, crossed a Newfoundland with a Saint Bernard for four generations, then added in a Pyrenean Mountain Dog to the mix. 9. Caucasian Shepherd – This big dog was bred to do one thing only, and that is to protect sheep from wolves, and any other predator that dares attack a shepherd’s flock.
